Bucky Irving scored 5.9 half-PPR points in week 6, which hides the most interesting usage line of the week. He played 85% of Tampa Bay’s snaps against an average of 55% over his previous three games, his carry share went from 59% to 76%, and he had 22 touches and targets. Nobody in that backfield sat out. The numbers do not say why it moved.
Roles that moved
The other running back jumps all came with someone missing. In Cleveland, Jaleel McLaughlin played 62% of the snaps against an average of 12% over his previous two games, and his carry share went from 2% to 32%, with Quinshon Judkins (57% of the snaps before this week) and Raheim Sanders (35%, on injured reserve) both out. McLaughlin had 13 touches and targets for 7.5 points.
In Houston, Woody Marks played 78% of the snaps against a 55% average and his carry share went from 37% to 60%, with David Montgomery, at 44% of the snaps before this week and listed Questionable today, out. Marks had 18 touches and targets for 9.1 points.
In Washington, Rachaad White played 69% of the snaps against a 52% average, his carry share 24% to 41%, with Jacory Croskey-Merritt, at 46% of the snaps before this week, out. White had 12 touches and targets for 13.7 points.
Three roles went the other direction. Terry McLaurin played 10% of Washington’s snaps after averaging 67% over his previous two games, and his target share fell from 24% to 3%. He is not listed as hurt, and the numbers do not say why. Jaylen Warren played 75% of Pittsburgh’s snaps after a 91% average, and his carry share went from 77% to 64%. Romeo Doubs played 3% of New England’s snaps after a 73% average, his target share 16% to 3%, and he is on injured reserve today. Doubs is hurt, not benched.
Work that has not paid
Four players have usage worth more than their scoring, measured over their last two games. Daniel Jones’s usage has been worth about 23.4 points a game and he has scored 12.5 a game. Dak Prescott’s has been worth 21.3 a game against 11.8 scored, and his Dallas teammate CeeDee Lamb’s has been worth 15.6 a game against 6.7, on 11 catches from 23 targets across those two games. Bo Nix’s has been worth 13.6 a game against 6.2.
The heaviest loads
Chuba Hubbard had the most work: 30 touches and targets, 28 carries and 2 targets, on 94% of the snaps for 18.6 points. Christian McCaffrey had 26, 16 carries and 10 targets, on 85% of the snaps for 26.2. Jonathan Taylor had 25, 21 carries and 4 targets, on 78% of the snaps for 20.1. Through the air, Lamb saw 18 targets in week 6, 33% of Dallas’s, and caught 9 for 70 yards. Emeka Egbuka saw 16, 39% of Tampa Bay’s, and caught 7 for 48. Jaxon Smith-Njigba also saw 16, 35% of Seattle’s, and caught 12 for 134.
Philadelphia threw 9.6 points of pass rate above what the situation asked, a 57% pass rate on 84 plays, the most in the league. Arizona went the other way by 7.3, a 40% pass rate on 88 plays.
