Rest-of-season projections

Every player, every remaining week. This week's number is the weekly model's own projection, matchup and weather included; the weeks after use his rate with the week switched off, just his own volume and efficiency, weighted toward recent games and pulled toward last season. Each week is scaled by his chance of playing it, measured from five seasons of injury reports: Out and Doubtful are nothing this week, a Questionable starter plays 70% of the time, injured reserve is nothing until four games have passed and then the return rate for what is hurt, and a torn ACL is the season. At quarterback one man plays, so a fill-in gets the weeks the starter is expected to miss and no more. The further out, the rougher the number; this week's is the one to trust.

As of Oct 28, 10:17 AM ET · half-PPR, 12-team replacement · refreshes every morning with the rankings

This week is the weekly projection, matchup and weather in. Next 4 and Rest of season are his rate times the games he is expected to play in those weeks; a grey number means he is expected to miss some of them, and the small line says how many he plays. Value is his rest-of-season total minus what the 14th quarterback would score in the weeks he plays, 17.2 a game right now. Half-PPR, 12 teams.

How to read it

This week's column is the same projection the rankings are built on, matchup and weather in. Later weeks are the player's own rate with the week switched off, so they do not know who he plays; a week 12 number is a center, not a forecast. Who plays comes from the designation, what is hurt, and how many games he has already missed, read against every absence by a quarterback, back, receiver or tight end from 2021 to 2025 (nflverse injury reports). Out players played 0 of 1,426 times, Doubtful 1 of 231, Questionable starters 677 of 961. After a missed game the chance of playing the next one depends on the injury and how long he has been out: a hamstring comes back faster than a knee, and every week out lowers the odds. Injured reserve carries the league's own rule, four games missed before he can return; a torn ACL or Achilles is written off for the year. The row under each name says what the data did with him. At quarterback the fill-in gets exactly the weeks the starter is expected to miss. Backs and receivers keep their own current rate, which lags a little when a starter comes back. Value is the number to compare across positions: a back and a receiver with the same total are not worth the same, because the free pickup you could play instead scores differently at each spot. Subtracting that pickup's points is what makes the two comparable.

How it was tested. For every week 3 through 12 of 2024 and 2025, every player was projected with only what was known that week and checked against what he actually averaged the rest of the way. It beat a plain season-to-date average at running back, receiver and tight end in both seasons, and beat last year's numbers at every position in both. At quarterback it tied the season average in 2024 and beat it in 2025. The numbers are on the model log, and the projections get graded on the scorecard when the season ends.

How far off it runs. Over those same weeks the per-game number missed what the player actually averaged by about 3 points a game for a back, 2.7 for a receiver, 2.2 for a tight end and 4.2 for a quarterback, in half-PPR. The trade analyzer shows that miss under each player and calls a deal even when the gap is inside it. The number also spreads players out more than the season does, by about a fifth at back and receiver, so two stars a few points apart here are closer than they look.

What it can't know. The actual date a player comes back; the return odds are averages over hundreds of injuries, and his doctor knows more. Whether a role is about to change hands. Your playoff weeks. Treat the per-game number as a center, not a promise.
