Kyle Monangai played 54% of Chicago’s snaps in week 4 against an average of 36% over his previous three games, and his carry share went from 29% to 56%. That came out as 31 touches and targets — 30 carries and 1 target — for 27.5 half-PPR points. In the same backfield, D’Andre Swift went from 65% of the snaps to 35% and from a 52% carry share to 28%. Nobody was listed out in front of either of them. The numbers do not say why.
Roles that moved
Three other backs jumped, and all three had a teammate who did not play. Braelon Allen went to 94% of the snaps against a 41% average with Breece Hall, at 57% of the snaps before this week, out — Allen’s carry share read 100% against 22% before, on 16 touches and targets for 7.7 points. Jaylen Warren took 97% of the snaps against 66% with Rico Dowdle out, a 57% carry share becoming 89%, and 23 touches and targets for 14.1 points. Emanuel Wilson went 28% to 60% with Jadarian Price on injured reserve, his carry share 37% to 64%, for 25 touches and targets and 25.5 points. Those are three absences, not three new jobs.
Saquon Barkley is the plain one: 7% of the snaps after a 53% average, a carry share down from 51% to 7%, and he is listed Out today. He is hurt. Omarion Hampton is the one with no such explanation — 35% of the snaps against a 54% average and a carry share cut from 61% to 28%, with no absence beside it.
In Cincinnati, Tee Higgins led the receivers with 16 targets while Ja’Marr Chase, who had averaged 8.3 targets a game coming in, had 3. Andrei Iosivas, at 57% of the snaps before this week, is on injured reserve. Higgins is listed Questionable today, and so is Monangai.
Work that has not paid
Four players have usage that says more than their scoring does, measured over their last two games. Jacoby Brissett’s usage has been worth about 28.3 points a game and he has scored 18 a game. Michael Wilson’s has been worth 25.1 a game and he has scored 16.7 a game; across those two games he caught 18 of 30 targets. Matthew Stafford’s has been worth 23.6 a game against 15.3 scored. Swift’s has been worth 17.3 a game against 8.1, on 4 catches from 5 targets over the two games, so the snap-share drop above and the two-game shortfall are sitting on the same player.
The heaviest loads
Monangai’s 31 touches and targets led the week. Kyren Williams had 29 on 83% of the snaps, split 16 carries and 13 targets, for 31.7 points — the most of anyone here. Aaron Jones had 28 on 73% of the snaps, 20 carries and 8 targets, for 14.8. Through the air, CeeDee Lamb saw 21 targets, 49% of Dallas’s, and caught 17 of them for 189 yards. Tetairoa McMillan and Higgins both saw 16 — McMillan 41% of Carolina’s for 14 catches and 192 yards, Higgins 30% of Cincinnati’s for 11 and 157.
Carolina threw 8.4 points above what the situation asked for, a 47% pass rate on 93 plays, the most in the league. LAC went the other way by 10.5, a 38% pass rate on 94 plays.
